My child woke up ready and eager to start school this morning. That’s an exciting new thing around here! After four years of slogging through a mostly two-dimensional approach to learning, we filed to become our own private school this summer.
I’ve been researching for a few years, since our schooling journey did include partial homeschool days. In fact, seeing what was out there for homeschooling families cemented my notion that my child would benefit greatly from a more personalized approach.
Instead of grumbling and avoiding coming to the table to learn, like what has happened for the last few years, she gathered all her supplies and nearly jumped into her chair!
What was she so exited to wake up and do today?
SCIENCE!
We have been listening to the Nat Theo Podcast https://thenaturaltheologyproject.com/nattheo for a few years now. When the free study that coincides with the Persaid meteor shower popped up in my inbox yesterday, we eagerly printed it off.
I am so thankful that Nat Theo (Eryn Lynum) supplies YouTube videos of the podcasts (the shooting star one can be found here). We were having a hard time grasping the idea of how different things in space appeared, but the video podcast really helped us to understand.
Nat Theo stands for “Natural Theology” and it is a Christian theology based nature podcast for kids. We have loved learning about all sorts of creatures through the podcast, and this new series on space is super fun, too!
Every week she supplies a free coloring sheet. The bonus free printables this week were extra, and we had visuals, an art project, a coloring sheet, copy work practice (we used the cursive one), and a writing prompt. It was great to get science, writing, and art done for the day in a fun and engaging way!
The Perseid meteor shower runs tonight, August 12-13, 2026. We plan to try to see it from a nearby mountaintop, but we are also expecting monsoons, so we may need to put it off until the next big meteor showers this year. Luckly, she provided a chart of the upcoming ones this year in the packet!
